Originates from the Blizzard Entertainment game Starcraft (where the Zerg were a character race characterised by the use of large numbers of weak units to swarm the enemy).
In MMO terms, 'zerging' is referred to the act of using large numbers of lower level players to defeat an enemy, through force of numbers rather than strategy.
