Certain penalties will be suffered from weaving overly powerful spells - the character will suffer from soul corruption as they continue to push the limits of their magic. After a (currently unknown) amount, if the character dies they will be sent to hell as punishment, possibly fighting their way out or paying some other penalty.
It has been suggested that some spell casting classes, such as the Herald of Xotli, will benefit from large amounts of soul corruption; this remains to be seen.
