[edit] 7.1 Will there be any magic in Age of Conan?

Of course. Magic is a vital part of the Hyborian world. Age of Conan sports a fully functional magic system made after close consultation with the Conan lore and the original books by Robert E. Howard, and this system will not only require character skills (like choosing a spellcasting class), but it will also require human skill to master.

[edit] 7.2 What is spellweaving?

Spellweaving is the system we’ve given the magic users to make the caster classes as fun and exciting to play as the combat classes, since it wouldn’t be fair to let the tanks have all the fun! This system has not yet been fully revealed, but we can tell you it will require strategic planning to execute well, with catastrophic consequences for mistakes. Magic users have always walked a fine line in Hyboria, and there will be no exceptions in Age of Conan.

[edit] 7.3 Are there any dangers associated with magic usage and spellweaving?

Absolutely. Magic in Age of Conan usually involves shady doings, pacts with dark demons, or the blessings of powerful gods. As a consequence, powerful spells can backfire in spectacular, fatal, or hilarious fashion, making magic a balancing act between the desired results and the potential consequences of spending too much time messing with things from the dark places of the world.

[edit] 7.4 What exactly is mana?

Mana is the “currency” you pay for casting spells. Your mana pool works much like your health pool, and when you cast spells, the mana pool is emptied depending on the mana cost of each spell. Your mana pool grows over time as your character develops.

[edit] 7.5 Will magic look and feel as in other online games?

Visually, we’ve tried for a different style. Magic in Conan’s age is dangerous, hidden, and dark. Men who meddle with dark magic may fall to its temptation and powers. Consequently, the look of spells reflects that, be it simple and basic spells or be it calling up foul creatures from the deep and scary places of the world. There will be dramatic spell effects, but they will be more in line with calling upon dark and terrible forces than putting on a laser light show to rock music.

[edit] 7.6 Will spellcasters be able to summon demons and other creatures?

Yes. Some classes are even dedicated to this form of magic. However, this is a dangerous art, and it could lead to disastrous results if it’s not done right.

[edit] 7.7 Will all magic revolve around death and destruction?

Not at all. All magic is dangerous, to a degree, but there’s also healing magic, magic that enhances other players, and so on.
