Yes, there is an extensive guild system in the game. There will be certain requirements for founding a guild. For example, creating a guild is free, but you will need to be at least level 20 to do so.

Communication

The chat window offers a guild channel where everyone in the guild can communicate.

Organization

The guild leader and their officers can establish rules the members have to follow and give members various ranks.

Privileges

Each rank can also have a certain set of privileges tied to it.

In addition to that, only guilds can build and conquer the battlekeeps and towers in the Border Kingdom and only guilds can build the player cities.

[edit] 9.3 Are there any classes that can be particularly helpful for guilds?

All of them!

Guilds will need high-level crafters of all kinds to help build and maintain their city or battlekeep or tower, as well as keep members supplied with all the equipment required to survive in Hyboria. Guilds playing in the PvP regions will need those and will also need a coterie of tough fighters, healers, mages, and rogues to deal with other guilds’ attacks.

Yes. Players can create entire cities and fill them with different kinds of buildings. There is also a town hall in each city that can be used as a gathering point or social hub or meeting hall, whatever your guild would like to do with it.

[edit] 9.5 I’m a solo player. Do you have to be in a guild to progress through the game?

No, you do not need to be in a guild to enjoy the game, and it’s possible to play solo all of the way to level 80. There will be exciting solo PvE gameplay through all levels, but that said, many of the large-scale features like raids and massive PvP will require groups, guilds, or otherwise working with other players.
