[edit] 10.1 Will there be crafting and tradeskills in Age of Conan?

Definitely! For a complete overview of the crafting and the economy system, please see [This]

[edit] 10.2 How many crafting professions can I have?

Each character can only have one crafting profession, so choose carefully! However, it will be possible to master all of the gathering professions, so even if you’re not interested in making things, you can have a healthy sideline getting crafters all the parts and materials they need.

[edit] 10.3 How does advancing in crafting work?

There are six tiers of crafted goods for each different crafting school. Each tier is achieved by completing a number of quests for an NPC teacher. When all the quests for one tier have been completed, you can move onto the next tier.

[edit] 10.4 How can I get recipes?

Completing crafting quests and moving through the tiers will provide a good chunk of your recipes, but it will also be possible to find them out in the wider world.

[edit] 10.5 Will player items be better than dropped items?

The answer to this is “It depends.”

Player-made items are the only items that have gem sockets, thus increasing their adaptability and allowing them to be customized in ways that dropped items cannot be customized. When the Smiting Sword of Doom drops, the stats, effects, etc., that it has will be set. When you pick up your hand-crafted Doom Sword of Smiting from the Weaponsmith, it will have a number of sockets that can be useful for putting gems in.

As an example, the Smiting Sword of Doom may have perfectly decent (or better!) statistics, but the crafted Doom Sword of Smiting can have any number of beneficial effects added to it via gems that makes it more useful to your character or better in PvP situations or what have you.

[edit] 10.6 Will the item quality depend on the resource quality?

Absolutely! Rare materials and high quality resources will affect the quality of your item.

[edit] 10.7 Will craftsmen be able to make anything other than swords and shields and potions and such?

Yes. Crafters will be a key part of any guild looking to get into the city owning (or defending or destroying!) business, as they will be needed to build things in player cities, the siege weapons to destroy them, and all the gear that keeps the guild ready and running.

[edit] 10.8 Is it possible to do nothing but crafting?

No, you will need to advance in level to get to the point where you can begin crafting, and may find it advantageous to explore some of the higher-level areas of the game.
